Big country, big animals
15 juli 2011 - Sydney, Australië
Always thought the USA was famous for its supersized nature, cars, food, people etc. But yesterday I discovered that also in Australia things are not small. Not only my breakfast-muffin, which was large enough to be my lunch and half of my dinner as well or the money (paper money looks like Monopoly-money, and the size of the coins is ridiculous; A$2 is the size of a “dubbeltje”, while A$0.20 is about the size of a CD). I was most amazed when I walked back home from the university around 6. It is winter, which does not mean it is cold; it is still warmer that in the Netherlands this week, but dusk falls well before 6. And while I was walking across the campus, a big black creature flew over me and landed in a tree. I first thought it was a crow or something, but when I looked in to the tree, there was a huge bat enjoying his meal. Not charmed by me flashing in his face he flew away again, and now standing closer to it, I could clearly see the size; with his wings stretched it was over 60cm wide. I’m curious to the size of other animals….

Steef:15 juli 2011omg...dat beest is echt enorm...zorg je wel dat je niet opgevreten wordt door een of ander beest? (krokodil ofzo, die zijn dan vast ook 10x zo groot als normaal....)
